The Anacostia River Pool Facility is a home to all. Located on the edge of the water and adjacent to the 11th street bridge, the facility will provide access for people to swim in the newly cleansed Anacostia River. As a symbol for positive change in the greater community, and as a response to historical and contemporary inequality the design is sought out to become an icon of wholeness and social equality. The facility include a 5360 sf pool encompassed by an Anacostia River Interpretive Center/Musical Library. The supplementary program is intended is to provide an additional resource to a highly social oasis. The facility’s architectural intent is to create an inward user experience, but its panoramic roof deck topped with 13,540 sf of photovoltaic glass floors could provide a supplementary source of energy for the pool and the neighboring facilities. This facility both from within and without will provide a icon for a healthy, revitalized community.
